CLASSICAL POSTCARD..............PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT OF THE DAY

Have you ever ventured out in search of a percussion instrument that takes some amount of searching. And just when you think the day is slipping out of your hand, you finally hit the jackpot. Bingo! your eyes light-up and your fingers start to move in a rhythm.

Today was one such day. The only difference is, those eyes with a sparkle belonged to a budding percussionist and not to yours truly. It was nice to see a little boy's dream coming true :-) .

Have we seen this before? Maybe or maybe not. Does it really matter whether this postcard is a replica of an old one from the archives of the sacred observatory, or it isn't? Well, honestly speaking it shouldn't . When there's rare music, books close to your heart and sizzling hot cuppa of tea (wondering what happened to the coffee with a star? stay tuned...next one might capture the cappuccino in all its starry glory :-) ) for company, you don't need another reason to rejoice. Because nothing can be more uplifting than this. Each time seems like a new time......Absolutley heavenly.

I am letting out a secret. Yours truly is a compulsive drinker. He always prefers it on the rocks....absolutely neat, until the very last drop has trickled down his parched soul. If it wasn't for his favorite bottle of music, the man would have vanished without a trace, long time ago.

Yesterday, Jan 8th 2010, was Elvis Aaron Presley's 75th birthday. A cultural icon and the undisputed king of rock and roll. Even after all these years every time the radio plays " it's now or never", I bet millions go crazy.His rich musical legacy still shines bright and I am sure it will continue to do so for many years to come..............as long as there is good music.

She really plays hard to get. Doesn't she? It's been an agonising wait and at last she has decided to cast her spell. Guess what's the radio playing now...................RAINDROPS KEEP FALLIN' ON MY HEAD, from the classic movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", one of my all time favorite by B J Thomas . Music is boundless. It's an Ocean out there. Unfortunately we don't get to see enough new launches when it comes to English music in India. Though I have a dedicated music blog( haven't posted anything new in a long time though. Hopefully I should be back with a vengeance shortly. Coz there's hell of a lot I want to talk about ) to write about my kind of stuff , music that makes me spin that wheel on my i pod whenever I have a breather.

"IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE, PLAY ON" said William Shakespeare. Life isn't an easy walk in the park any more. It's a real grind, day in and day out. And what better way to dance away your blues then digg into music you love.

As I write this post super rock act U2 is killin' me with their latest offering NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. Few bands can boast of a more chequered career than this awesome Irish quartet. I am huge huge fan of their music. Never seem to get enough. Don't miss it, the album is available at all the leading music stores.

Music transcends all language barriers, cuts across cultural boundaries. It's an Ocean out there.... different strokes for different folks. Every possible genre defined, the geniuses are still at work.Trying to create new streams everyday.

One such genius behind a cult rock band is Adam Duritz. Yes ! I am talking about the awesome, incomparable, my favorite band, the counting crows. I am a proud owner of all their masterpieces but one. Their signature album, August and Everything After, for some strange reason, is still missing from my collection. Not for long though.

Their latest offering Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings has completely blown me away. Wow !! what a swashbuckling return. The music grows on you with every listen. Lot of people felt that the band, lost its way with Hard Candy. But I don't agree with them. I think the music on the record is as good as you will ever hear.

Thanks guys for serving yet another work of art! Can't wait to see you back in the studios and doing what you do best..........making the music for the soul.

Rocking myself to grave !!

When I was in college, RADIO GA GA used to be one of my favorite tracks. Incomparable Freddie Mercury has belted many great songs during the rein of QUEEN and who can forget the unforgettable Bohemian rhapsody, became an anthem of sorts when it was released. But ga ga for some strange reason, has stuck with me... an eternal favorite? maybe.

Cd's used to be a rich man's buy those days, hence tapes used to be our staple diet. Believe me, on a shoestring pocket money, even buying a tape used to be an expensive affair back then. It's said nothing can stop the passion when it assumes himalayan proportions. Budgetary constraints not withstanding, in no time a small collection of music turned into an ocean. The drill used to be simple. If you like it, you better buy it !!

Lot of water has gone under the bridge since, but the passion hasn't gone down a bit. Though I experiment a lot these days and have dabbled into every genre of music, still rock continues to be the soul curry. Can't imagine my life without my music...MY GREATEST COMPANION, MY BIGGEST STRESS BUSTER.If not for my music, the path I tread would be a long and lonesome one.
